Fortunes of the Caribbean is a 5 reel, 60 line slot machine from WMS Gaming. It's part of the Money Burst Series of slots which feature two double symbol reels and three four symbol reels. The game has three types of free spins, stacked wilds, a gamble feature and the randomly triggered Jackpot Party Progressive bonus.
The game has a 30 coin max bet which might seem a bit odd since it has 60 lines. To make the Fortunes of the Caribbean more accessible for players of all budgets, WMS have gone with a 30 coin max bet where each coin counts for two pay lines.
The Island symbol is wild for all symbols except the scattered Shells. Five wilds on any active line award a 400 coin pay. While this is quite small compared to other games it is possible to get a whole screen of wilds which pays a very nice 24,000 coins.
After the top jackpot for the Islands there are three ways to hit for 200 coins with either five Ladies, Pearls or Pendants. From there the five of a kind wins range from 100 (Parrots) to 30 coins (Bananas). Again the stacked wilds can means you get the same pay on lots of lines at once so the small pay table values can turn into big wins.
There are three different free spin features on Fortunes of the Caribbean. Each feature is triggered slightly differently and each offers a slightly different style of free games. The various possibilities are as follows,
- Type 1
Triggered by getting four matching symbols on the first two reel and three Shells anywhere on the last three. This awards 20 free games where the first two reels are held. You then get a wild reel for each spin and an extra wild added to both of the other remaining reels. This feature cannot be re-triggered - Type 2
This feature is won by getting four matching symbols on the first two reels. You then get 5 free spins with the first reels held for all of the spins. Getting three Shells on the last three reels awards another 5 free games. - Type 3
Get three or the scattered Shell symbols on the last three reels and you win 5 free games. During the free spins a wild reel is awarded on one of the last three reels and an extra wild is added to the other two. This feature cannot be re-triggered.
Each of the free spin options give you a better chance of winning with the first type being the best possible especially if you get the first four symbols as wilds. It's worth noting again that Fortunes of the Caribbean is super high variance so you can go a long time without seeing any good wins. When it pays however it can really pay well.
On top of all of the game based features, Fortunes of the Caribbean is also part of the Jackpot Party Progressive network which means you can win a shot at one of the Jackpot Party progressives at the end of any paid spin.
